Eric Rensel with DCNR will present “Forest and Fungi: A Wood-Wide Web” on Tuesday, February 13.

CLEARFIELD, PA. - The Clearfield Community Lifelong Learning Institute, a partnership between Mature Resources Area Agency on Aging (MRAAA) and Commonwealth University (CU) – Clearfield, will host a program focused on the importance of fungi in forest ecosystems.

Presented by Natural Resource Program Specialist Eric Rensel with the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR), “Forest and Fungi: A Wood-Wide Web” is planned for 1:00 p.m. until 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, February 13, in Room A131 of the Academic Building at the CU-Clearfield Campus.

Rensel’s lecture reveals that much is being brought to light about how our forests depend on fungi, and how fungi depend on forests. Participants will learn about some of these interactions during this program, and learn just how important fungi are to human survival.

MRAAA and Commonwealth University – Clearfield collaborate each year to offer the Clearfield Community Lifelong Learning Institute. The latest round of programs will run February through May. Courses are geared towards the interests of older citizens, typically lasting around 90 minutes. Courses are taught primarily by Lock Haven faculty and individuals from the community with specific expertise. All programs are free unless otherwise noted.

While this program is free, participants must register by calling 814-765-2696.
